Don’t Worry!

Key verse

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7

This scripture shows us how we should think about and focus on every situation we face. We are not limited by how we feel. Jesus already knows how we feel. Simple, right? Well, not really.

Another word for anxious is “worry.” I’m sure you hear people say, “I’m worried sick.” And sometimes it’s true! We can worry so much that we actually get sick. We can even develop ulcers because of the anxiety we cause ourselves. For what? Worry produces nothing. Nothing we worry about feeds us or clothes us. It won’t add an hour to our lives. In fact, it wastes the time we spend worrying.

God understands what we are going through and knows that all our worrying produces nothing. He gave us life as a gift to enjoy and spend productively. When we live our lives anxious or worrisome, we refuse to live in the manner God intended. We must turn everything over to Him, through prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, so He can help us overcome our situations. Nothing is too big or too small.

Nothing is too big or too small.

Prayer is the way we come to God when we need His help. We cannot do this on our own, and through supplication, we focus on Him and not the problem. We can give thanks because we know He is faithful and just and will see it to the end.

Corrie Ten Boom said it this way, “Worry does not empty tomorrow of its sorrow, it empties today of its strength.” Let’s stay focused on today because tomorrow’s not here yet!

Prayer

Lord, I confess. I sometimes prefer worry over prayer.  Thank You for allowing me to cast all my cares upon You. I pray that I learn to do so with a thankful heart. I pray for strength to keep my focus on You and not on my surroundings or situations. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Ask Yourself:

Is there something that I am worried about that I can turn over to God right now?

Am I choosing to pray with thanksgiving and trusting in God?
