Where We Are Going and Why

The Apostle Paul lived life to the fullest. Despite his trials, he loved life with Jesus. He was on fire for the gospel and changed the world. But his life wasn’t always that way. Prior to his encounter with the Lord, he lived a life of strict religion and anger at those who didn’t do the same. But when he met Jesus, everything changed. He understood that the purpose of his life was for God to reveal His Son in him.
We all go through seasons of wondering about purpose. How often have we asked or heard the question, “What is God’s purpose for my life?” God is no respecter of persons, and His purpose for you is the same one that Paul expresses: God’s purpose for your life is to reveal His Son in you.

This purpose is transcendent. It is above our life seasons and circumstances. It is above our occupations and our families. You might love or hate your job; either way, your purpose is higher. You might find incredible purpose in your family, but one day the kids will grow and go; your purpose is higher than that. This is good news. It means that you don’t lose your purpose based on your life season.
The problem that we run into and that can keep us from living life to the full is that we keep looking for the next best thing. We sense that we are in one season and are ready to move on to the next, but it isn’t time. In these circumstances, frustration and confusion rob us of living full lives.
Very often, the reason that we lack certainty about our next steps is because there is more of the Son to be revealed right where we are. If you aren’t where you want to be yet, it could be that there is more preparation to be done. But God wants to get you ready because He needs you to progress. Be still. Let Him reveal His Son, and the next step will come.
We can navigate life without the anxiety of wondering what God’s will is. We can love life with Jesus because He is our purpose. Have confidence that the work He began, He will complete. God’s purpose for your life is to reveal His Son in you, and it pleases Him to do it.
Prayer
Father, thank You for giving me a purpose that is bigger than seasons and circumstances. Thank You for valuing me as someone through whom You want to reveal Jesus in the earth. When I lose focus, thank You for reminding me I can live life to the fullest by embracing your transcendent purpose. Reveal Jesus in me. In His precious name, amen.

How has misunderstood purpose caused frustration in my life?
Is there a part of my story I am hiding that God wants to use to reveal His Son?
Am I willing to open that up to Him so that He can turn it for His glory and my progress?
