Take a Look Around

So Jesus had compassion and touched their eyes. And immediately their eyes received sight, and they followed Him.

Task-oriented people often have difficulty seeing others when they are running from one job to another. In high school, it would offend other students when I would not see, hear, or talk to them between classes. Even today, when I’m on a specific mission in work or day-to-day activities, I often am blind to the needs of those around me, which leads to unintentional hurts.

However, if we are to operate as extensions of Christ’s body to the world, noting the hurts around us is essential. Jesus went much further than that. He didn’t just note the hurts of others, His true compassion led Him to action.

Hurting people hurt others; sometime those in pain will attack us. When we choose to follow Christ’s example by compassionately and courteously touching and healing them anyway, the Scriptures say we will inherit blessing.

Finally, all of you be of one mind, having compassion for one another; love as brothers, be tenderhearted, be courteous; not returning evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary blessing, knowing that you were called to this, that you may inherit a blessing.

1 Peter 3:8-9 NKJV

Prayer

Father God, I choose today to follow Jesus’ example; I choose to look past the interruptions and see the people in my path as opportunities to heal. Fill me with compassion leading to action. In Jesus’ name and with Your help, amen.
