Peacekeepers

Key verse

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your request be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all under-standing, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:6-7 NKJV

What do you think about when you hear the word peace? Freedom? Tranquility? Order? God is looking for peacekeepers, and that can be you. How many times have you entered into a place and felt a heaviness? What was your first reaction? Did you look for the cause or did you go directly to God?

I often try to solve it myself and look for the problem instead of going directly to Him. He gives us clear direction in His Scriptures. Philippians 4:6-7 says, Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your request be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. This Scripture tells us how we can shed anxieties.

God tells us that we should pray to Him with thanksgiving and make our request known to Him. I think at times our problems look so big because we have taken our focus off of God and put all the focus on our situation. He is so much bigger than our problems. He is our Healer, our Provider, and our Shelter.

Sometimes we need to remember what we should be focused on, or rather, who we should be focused on. When we have problems and worries, we often forget to pray or at least don’t pray about them first. Then, when we do pray, we may think that the only way that God can solve the request is to do it our way. God may very well do that. He has the power to change any situation, but He will not be limited to our expectations. His ways will always be better.

God does not promise to change every situation to our liking. What He does promise to do is give us peace during any situation. In other words, God may or may not change the circumstance, but He will change our disposition toward it so that it does not cause us inner turmoil. As long as we stay worried, we are robbing

ourselves of joy. We need to replace worry with prayer. Wow! How cool to know that we can bring peace into any situation just by our prayers? When we are purposeful about our prayers and choose to be thankful in every situation, God will give us peace. What an encouraging Scripture! Let us be the peacekeepers God is looking for.

Prayer

Lord, make me a peacekeeper in all circumstances. I want to be purposeful in my prayers and thankful in every situation. Remind me to replace all worry and things that are not of You with prayer and supplication. Help me remember that I can come to You in everything that I’m faced with in my day-to-day challenges.

Questions:

Do you have something that belongs to God that you're trying to fix yourself?

Do you know of a situation that you could be praying for right now?

How can you stay more focused on God the next time worry comes to mind?
