Take a Deep Breath

Key verse

The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. John 10:10

One Sunday morning, I woke up short of breath. I’d never had any issues breathing in my entire life. I was in my mid-20s, very healthy, and fit. I began to panic because my throat was closing up. The only thing I could even think to do was cry out to God, run into the bathroom, turn on the shower, and breathe in the steam. It worked. Thank God I could breathe because breathing is essential to life!

The steam opened up my bronchial tubes, and I later found out I had some kind of virus that went away with rest. Most of the time, in the past, if I couldn’t breathe well it was because I was working out or running so hard that my heart needed more oxygen, and in order to breathe, I would just rest. The problem when you have a virus is that you need more than rest. You need an infusion of something to help you breathe. There are times in life when rest can help you, but it is useless if you don’t handle the virus of sin and destruction coming against your soul.

The devil is on a mission to destroy your life, but Jesus came to give you life, and life to the full. So abundant. So fruitful. So much that you can actually take people along with you in the process—enough life to build a church, family, business, friendship, and more.

Jesus is like that infusion of steam that opens up your airways to breathe again. I can’t help but think of hot Chinese mustard or wasabi. When you get too much, your eyes water and your nose tingles when you breathe, and we all laugh. That’s what Jesus is like! You can feel Him every time you breathe. It brings such joy to your heart that your eyes water! I had a friend take a teaspoon of wasabi once, and it was hilarious. Honestly, that’s what I suggest you do today. Go all-in with Jesus, breathing in the breath of God. The Holy Spirit is ready to transform your life. The word "spirit" actually means breath. God is ready to fill you to the full! So cast out the virus of sin and destruction in your life and breathe in the grace of His presence!

Go all-in with Jesus, breathing in the breath of God.

Prayer

Jesus, I’m ready to give up on the plan the devil has for me and not walk in those ways anymore. Please lead me in 2021 by the breath of Your presence as I follow the leading of the Holy Spirit. God, I am Your child and Your servant. I am ready to follow You and live out the full and complete picture that you want for me. Amen.

Ask Yourself:

Is there something I need to let go of to follow God?

What does it mean to live life to the full?
