Peace is a Gift

Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

Peace. There are times when the concept of peace can seem so foreign and unobtainable amidst the chaos of life, especially when we are faced with fear and uncertainty. Often, we expect peace to be the absence of obstacles or conflict and believe that to feel peace, life has to be all sunshine and rainbows. If you’re anything like me, it seems like there is always something you’re having to battle. This mindset leaves very little opportunity to truly experience peace. The good news is that we are able to feel peace, regardless of our situation!

Through Jesus Christ, we are given a confident assurance in His promises and provision that leads to the truest and deepest form of peace. It isn’t circumstantial, but rather flows out of the intimate relationship we have with our Father and Provider. The Bible tells us in this verse that Jesus leaves His peace with us. We don’t have to go looking for it—it was left in our possession, like a gift that has been placed into our hands. The peace of the Lord surpasses all understanding; we don’t have to try to explain it or understand it. We simply receive it. Mark 11:24 says, “Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.” So when it feels like peace is far out of reach, remember that you have already received it as a gift from your heavenly Father. He is faithful and wants nothing more than to lavish His peace on you.

Prayer

Lord, thank You for the peace that You are so faithful to pour out over me. Thank You that I don’t have to go looking for it or work for it, but that You give it to me like a gift. Help me to walk in faith knowing that no matter how bad the storm may seem, Your peace goes with me.
